The Diversity & Racial Equity Department's mission is to provide a safe environment where everyone is valued, respected, and accepted. We seek to forge strong, positive connections with students, parents/guardians, staff, and community. Our goal is to support district initiatives in order to become an anti-racist and anti-hate organization.

The Diversity & Racial Equity department works to implement the Palm Springs Unified School District initiatives where we are committed to an equitable, socially just, and anti-racist educational system that is based on fairness, dignity and democracy in order to foster student success. We serve and honor our diverse student body in regards to ethnicity, language, culture, national origin, socio-economic status, age, physical and mental ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious beliefs and family structure. We commit to be an anti-racist and anti-discriminatory learning community that creates safe learning spaces where all students are welcomed, included, and respected. Every student, every day. We oversee a tapestry of enriching projects designed to foster inclusivity, celebrate different backgrounds, and promote equity within our community. At the forefront of these initiatives is our annual Diversity and Racial Equity Conference, the College & Culture Tours, and the PSUSD Multicultural Festival. We strive to provide multiple opportunities to capture student voice such as student panels, interviews, and surveys. Our team provides ongoing learning opportunities to increase cultural awareness amongst our learning community through workshops and events around cultural awareness. Each of these programs is crafted with the intent to create a more equitable and inclusive environment where everyone, regardless of their background, feels valued and empowered. To bring these impactful projects to fruition, we are seeking the support of generous donors who share our vision for building inclusive and welcoming environment. Your contributions will enable us to expand these programs, reach more individual scholars, and make a lasting difference in our community. We invite you to join us in this vital work and help us build a brighter, more inclusive future for all.

PSUSD College & Culture Tour

Our annual College & Culture tour serves as a unique opportunity for students from diverse backgrounds to explore higher education institutions while immersing themselves in the cultural richness of different communities. Previous trips have entailed visiting Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI). Students visit a variety of campuses ranging from state schools, public, private, small, and large campuses. These tours not only aim to broaden students' academic horizons but also to instill a sense of belonging and aspiration by showcasing the vibrancy of diverse campuses. Culturally, while on tour students visit a variety of museums, smithsonians, cultural, and historical sites like the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial.

PSUSD Multicultural Festival

We host an annual Multicultural Festival open to the entire Palm Springs Unified School District and surrounding community. Our event attracts more than 700+ attendees. Approaching our 3rd Multicultural Festival, the event captures a variety of music, student performances, cuisine, and art. We hope to support and give back to our community through the participation of small local businesses that sell merchandise or cultural food during the event. In celebration of cultures, the festival is more than just an event; it is a dynamic space where individuals of all backgrounds come together to share and engage with each other.

Stay tuned for the 3rd Annual Multicultural Festival in the Spring of 2025!
